A woman in New Hampshire has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after allegedly pushing a senior dog into a lake and letting it drown.
On June 8 at 7:30pm, Nancy Bucciarelli, 66, “pushed her 11-year-old Golden Retriever from a dock into the lake where it struggled to swim and eventually drowned,” according to police.
As the dog struggled to stay above water, witnesses said she made no attempt to help the dog she shoved her pet dog into a lake and watched as her elderly dog, Bailey, struggled in Naticook Lake in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
Merrimack Police Chief Denise Roy has called the incident “disturbing” as witnesses claim Bucciarelli stood by and watched as her elderly dog, Bailey, struggled in Naticook Lake in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
Police said the drowning took place in 3.5 feet (1 metre) of water that was 74 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees C)
“It is a sad story. It’s unconscionable to think what this defendant is charged with,” said Chief Denise Roy with the Merrimack Police Department.
“The witnesses actually are the ones who jumped into the water to find the dog under the water and pull the dog out. They made every attempt to revive the dog, but unfortunately, the dog did die,” Roy said.
According to Fox NEWS, police were called to the scene on June 8 to recover Bailey’s body, before concluding that Bucciarelli had indeed pushed her own pet into the lake.
“We may never know what really happened there, except for what the witnesses observed and what the defendant has said,” Roy explained.
A warrant was drafted for Bucciarelli and she surrendered herself to police. She will be charged with cruelty.
