This poor kitty was barely breathing when firefighters finally arrived on the scene. And what a scene it turned out to be!
Firefighters discovered a 1-year-old cat hanging by her neck from a sewage cover in Winchendon, Massachusetts, this past Thursday. Firefighters believe that she must have managed to find a way into the storm drain and then became trapped when she tried to escape through an impossible exit!
“When we arrived the cat was barely breathing and moving as she was hanging from the grate,” posted the Winchendon Fire Department on Facebook.
Two of the crew members pulled off the grate and then stood it on its side, allowing the cat to breathe, according to the post. Then, once the cat’s unidentified owner arrived at the scene, they asked him to get them some dish soap. They then used the dish soap to help free the curious cat.
“We applied it around the cat’s neck, we slowly worked his head back into the grate and within a couple minutes we freed the cat,” wrote the department.
The cat was reunited with her owner right away, while the department described the incident as a “feel good animal story” and commended the “strong work” of its crew.
