Woman Loved Cats And Dogs Very Much, So She Left $1.2M To a Local Animals Shelter

This Tennessee woman left $1.2 million to a local animal shelter because she loved dogs and cats very much. She died in November 2015 and is described by her family as an avid animal lover.

“Mrs. DeLawder so loved cats and dogs that she left her estate, $1.2 million to be used exclusively to help care for Carter County’s cats and dogs.”

The announced was made on the Christmas Day on the Carter County government website by Mayor Leon Humphrey, making this gift even more special.

Money will be given to the Elizabethton Carter County Animal Shelter to expand the holding areas. Also they will get a new van that can be used to transport dogs and cats to be spayed and neutered.

The shelter posted about this on Facebook.

Construction for the shelter expansion is scheduled for Jan. 9, and the van will be ready by March 1.
