In the past, there weren’t many laws to protect animals from abuse. But since then, our world has come a considerably long way. Sadly, however, there are still countless animals that are still being abused and exploited, particularly when it comes to traditional medicine.
I’m sure you’ve heard the stories of animals such as rhinos and elephants that are slaughtered for the mythical healing properties of their various body parts.
And animals like the Asiatic black bear are kept in tiny cramped cages their entire lives in order to extract their bile. For hundreds of years bear bile has been used in Asiatic medicine to treat the conditions of the liver and the gall bladder.
But now, their bile isn’t needed for these purposes. There are lots of synthetic and herbal remedies available that work just as well.
Sadly, some people still don’t believe that and they continue to keep bears in captivity to extract their bile. These unfortunate bears are kept in inhuman conditions in which they’re locked up in tiny, cramped cages and their bile is taken out while they’re still alive!
