A heartless person threw Callie out of a pickup truck earlier this month in Anderson County South Carolina. Callie was found on the road by some Animal Control officers. Eventually, Callie met Heidi Schermerhorn-Wagner and was finally safe.
Heidi, the founder of Boxer Butts & Other Mutts, said she got a picture of Callie the same day she had been picked up. Callie couldn’t go with Heidi right away. Callie had to be held at the shelter on a five-day stray hold.
Once Callie was in Heidi’s arms, things would start to get better – and Callie seemed to know it and gave Heidi some love! Callie was in bad shape, she had deep wounds and a severe skin infection.
Heidi’s veterinarian said Callie’s mange was the worst case he had ever seen. Callie was also very thin and seemed to have a broken spirit – you can see it in her eyes.
Heidi said that all Callie wanted to do at first was to lay curled up in a ball. Even as Heidi held the shivering dog, Callie would not look at her and would cower when Heidi approached her.
