Texas has recently experienced flooding of monumental proportions and perhaps no furry creature knows this better than Archer, a two-year-old Border Collie mix, who was found chained to a front porch during the flooding. As a TV news crew and Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls were surveying the neighborhood by boat, they spotted Archer, whose head was the only visible part of her body.

After her rescue, Archer was taken directly to the Houston Humane Society, where it was discovered that Archer was not only covered in flea debris but also heartworm positive. Archer was given multiple baths to remove the greasy film from the flood waters as well as a few days to recover before being made available for adoption.

Sheriff Nehls, one of those who were on the boat when Archer was rescued, took his family to visit this special dog and at the end of the day, the Nehls family just couldn’t say no to adding one more family member.

The Houston Humane Society posted to their Facebook page:

Archer was super excited to see the man that had helped save her life! It was love at first sight for everyone. Archer spent all afternoon giving kisses to the whole crew! At the end, the family voted unanimously to adopt Archer and make her part of their pack!!!

After adopting Archer, Sheriff Nehls took her to the veterinarian so that they can outline a treatment plan for her heartworms.

As Sheriff Nehls relayed on his own Facebook page, “The only water this girl will be in now is the swimming pool in [her] backyard!”
