Just recently the DeLuca family rescued this 2-year-old German shepherd they called Haus, but it didn’t take him very long to return the favor in a big way!
As a matter of fact, his bravery may just have saved the life of the little girl that he loves.
On Wednesday, Haus, along with 7-year-old Molly were playing in the backyard of the family’s Florida home when the two friends ran across a very large rattlesnake that was poised in the strike position. Haus realized that the snake meant real danger to the little girl and quickly put himself between Molly and that danger, even though by doing that he himself would bear the brunt of the snake’s attack.
“Haus stood his ground, protecting my daughter and was bitten three times before the snake slithered away,” mother Donya posted on Facebook. “Molly is fine, just shaken up and upset.”
But, for Haus, the fight was far from over.
The snake’s venom from those three bites left Haus in serious need of medical attention, so his family rushed with him to the Connechusett Animal Hospital where he could be treated. Even with the expensive antivenom treatment, the dog’s survival was uncertain- but Haus refuses to give up.
On Friday, Donya posted another update, and wrote that Haus’s health is steadily improving, and she said that he’s in good hands with the hospital’s care staff:
GO Haus! We’re all rooting for you!
Unfortunately, the cost of treating Haus to keep him alive has already climbed to a whopping $10,000 and it’s expected to climb even higher, so friends of the DeLuca family have set up a GoFundMe page for people who would like to donate toward the care of this brave dog.
