Charlie Franks worked in the circus for many years throughout the 1970s. He traveled the world, and he didn’t do so alone. I’m not talking about his circus troupe — I’m talking about his beloved elephant that he’d raised since she was only five years old. When he retired, Charlie decided to donate the elephant, whom he’d named Nita, to the San Diego Wild Animal Park.
They’ve been apart for 15 years, but in this video you can see their very first reunion. The love between these two is absolutely incredibly to see. The bond between an animal and its trainer is something deep that no amount of years can ever diminish or break. Charlie seems just as touched and overwhelmed to be back together with his friend as Nita does.
